Siding

James Hardie

We re-clad this Austin home in James Hardie fiber cement Board & Batten, set 16" on center. The scope covered Hardie fascia, soffit with H-mold, porch ceiling, and brick pockets. Fiber cement resists Central Texas hail, heat, and cedar pollen better than wood. We finished it all with Sherwin Williams Super Paint for lasting color.

Windows

NT Windows

We installed NT Twinsulator aluminum windows from NT Windows on this Austin home. The aluminum frames hold up well in 100-degree summers and frequent storms. Twinsulator glass helps reduce heat gain and outside noise. The new windows tie in cleanly with the home's new James Hardie siding.

First Contact

The homeowner found Austin Pro through an internet search and reached out on October 26, 2025. They wanted to update an aging exterior in the 78750 area with a modern board and batten look. We moved the project to prospect status the next day, October 27, 2025.

Evaluation

We inspected the existing wood siding, fascia, soffit, and windows. The older materials showed sun fade and wear typical of Central Texas heat and storms. We confirmed fiber cement siding and new NT aluminum windows as the best fit for the home.

PLanning & Approval

We built a detailed scope covering James Hardie Board & Batten siding, fascia, soffit, porch ceiling, brick pockets, and full painting. The homeowner approved the project on December 8, 2025. They also took the cash, check, or ACH discount of 10 percent.

Installation

Our crew installed Board & Batten siding 16" on center, plus Hardie fascia, soffit with H-mold, and the porch ceiling. We wrapped garage door jambs and beam ends in Hardie, then set the NT Twinsulator windows. Everything was painted with Sherwin Williams Super Paint and completed on May 6, 2026.

Completion

We finished with two yard cleanups and a full punch-out walkthrough. Painted gutters, downspouts, and garage doors tied the exterior together. The project closed clean on May 27, 2026, backed by James Hardie's product warranty.

  • Why did this Austin home need new siding?

This home sits in the 78750 ZIP, where many houses date from the 1980s and 1990s. Older wood trim and siding had taken a beating from sun and storms. Fiber cement was the right call for this exterior.

  • Central Texas hail damages wood and soft siding over time
  • 100-degree summers warp and fade older materials
  • Cedar pollen and moisture feed rot on aging wood trim
  • The homeowner wanted a modern board and batten look
  • What materials did we use, and why?

We chose James Hardie fiber cement set in a Board & Batten 16" On Center pattern. Fiber cement does not feed rot, resists impact, and holds paint for years. That makes it a strong fit for Austin's heat and limestone-dry, storm-heavy climate.

  • James Hardie Board & Batten, batten spacing at 16" on center
  • JH Fascia 8" with a 1x2 trim board
  • JH Soffit with H-mold for clean joints
  • 4' x 8' Select Cedarmill or Smooth porch ceiling, installed and painted
  • Brick pockets built with 1" x 4" trim
  • Hardie-wrapped garage door jambs and beam ends
  • What window did we install?

We replaced the old windows with NT Windows Twinsulator aluminum units. The aluminum frames stay stable in extreme heat and resist storm damage. Twinsulator glass cuts heat gain and helps lower cooling bills in summer.

  • NT Twinsulator aluminum windows throughout
  • Frames built to handle 100-degree Austin afternoons
  • Insulated glass to reduce heat and outside noise
  • Clean lines that match the new board and batten siding
  • How did the installation go?

Our crew handled siding, trim, painting, and windows in a tight, coordinated sequence. We delivered materials through ABC, wrapped the garage door jambs, and finished beam ends in Hardie for a seamless edge.

  • Full exterior painting with Sherwin Williams Super Paint
  • Fascia and soffit painted up to 36" and open soffit areas
  • Garage doors painted to match the new color scheme
  • Gutters and downspouts painted per linear foot
  • Two yard cleanups and a full punch-out before close
  • What were the results?

The home now wears a low-maintenance, storm-ready exterior. Fiber cement and aluminum windows both fight off the wear that ages homes in this part of Austin. The painted finish ties the whole look together.

  • A unified board and batten exterior, top to bottom
  • Painted fascia, soffit, gutters, and garage doors
  • New energy-smart windows for cooler summers
  • Project closed out clean on May 27, 2026
  • Frequently asked questions

How long did this siding and window project take?

The homeowner approved the work on December 8, 2025. We completed installation on May 6, 2026, and closed the project on May 27, 2026.

Why is James Hardie fiber cement good for Austin homes?

Fiber cement resists hail, holds up in 100-degree heat, and does not rot like wood. That makes it a smart pick for Central Texas storms and humidity.

    What did this project cost?

This full siding and window project fell in the $75,000 to $100,000 range. The scope covered Board & Batten siding, fascia, soffit, porch ceiling, painting, and new NT Twinsulator windows.

Do NT Twinsulator windows help with energy bills?

Yes. The insulated glass reduces heat gain during long Austin summers. That helps your AC work less and keeps indoor temps steadier.
