Complete James Hardie HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill Fiber Cement Siding Installation | Fresh OSB Sheathing With Painted Fascia and Soffit Finish

This Round Rock siding project used James Hardie Fiber Cement in the 8.25" Select Cedar Mill profile. We chose primed HardiePlank because it stands up to Central Texas heat, hail, and cedar pollen far better than wood. New 1/2" OSB sheathing went on before the boards to create a solid base. We then painted the fascia and soffit up to 24" for a clean, finished look.

The exterior painting phase focused on the fascia and soffit areas, extending up to 24 inches to create clean lines with the new siding installation. Sherwin Williams Grey Slate was selected for its proven performance in Central Texas conditions and its sophisticated complement to the James Hardie siding profile. Our painting crew prepared all surfaces thoroughly, addressing any weather damage from Round Rock's intense UV exposure and seasonal storms. The Grey Slate color provides excellent fade resistance and coordinates beautifully with the cedar mill texture, creating a cohesive exterior design that enhances the home's curb appeal while protecting these vulnerable roof edge areas from moisture intrusion.

The homeowner found Austin Pro through an internet search and reached out on October 10, 2022. Their main interest was replacing aging exterior siding on their Round Rock home. We moved the inquiry into the prospect stage on October 12, 2022.
We assessed the existing exterior and confirmed the walls needed new siding along with fresh sheathing. The Round Rock location in the 78681 ZIP meant planning for hail, intense summer heat, and cedar pollen. Fiber cement stood out as the best fit for these conditions.
We reviewed the scope, product choice, and paint plan with the homeowner. They approved James Hardie 8.25" Select Cedar Mill fiber cement on October 30, 2022. We locked in materials through ABC Supply Co. Inc. and scheduled the install.
The crew completed the work in a single day on April 24, 2023. They removed old siding, set 1/2" OSB sheathing, and installed the primed HardiePlank. Fascia and soffit were painted up to 24" using Sherwin Williams products.
After install, we ran two rounds of yard cleanup and handled all punch items. The finished exterior was fresh, painted, and ready for Texas weather. The project was invoiced and completed on April 24, 2023, then closed on May 12, 2023.
We re-clad a Round Rock home with James Hardie fiber cement siding in April 2023, swapping tired exterior boards for durable 8.25" Select Cedar Mill planks. The result is a crisp, weather-tough exterior built for Central Texas.
Older siding in Central Texas takes a beating. Summers push past 100°, spring brings hail, and cedar pollen coats everything each winter. This homeowner wanted a surface that could handle all of it without warping or rotting.
We went with James Hardie fiber cement in the 8.25" Select Cedar Mill profile. Fiber cement resists fire, hail dents, and the moisture swings that plague wood siding here. The Cedar Mill texture gives a natural wood-grain look without the upkeep.
Our crew handled the job as a focused single-day install on April 24, 2023. New OSB sheathing went up first, then the HardiePlank was fastened and sealed. Fiber cement is heavier than wood, so proper fastening matters a lot for wind and hail resistance.
The home came out with a clean, uniform exterior that shrugs off Texas weather. Painted fascia and soffit finished the trim lines nicely. The homeowner now has a surface built to last through many hot summers and hail seasons.
If you're weighing new siding, it pairs well with other exterior upgrades like gutters or exterior painting. A whole-exterior plan often saves you time and money.
This full project was completed in a single day on April 24, 2023. Timelines vary with home size and prep, but fiber cement installs move quickly with an experienced crew.
Fiber cement handles 100°+ heat, hail, and cedar pollen far better than wood. It won't rot, warp, or feed termites, which makes it a smart pick for Central Texas homes.
We used primed Select Cedar Mill planks, then painted on site with Sherwin Williams products. Priming first helps the paint bond and last longer under harsh sun.
This retail siding job fell in the $5k–$10k range. Final pricing depends on square footage, sheathing needs, and paint scope, so we quote each home individually.
