Complete James Hardie HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill Siding Installation | Full Exterior Repaint of Fascia, Soffit, Gable Vents, and Trim

This Spicewood siding project used James Hardie fiber cement to give an aging home a durable, low-maintenance exterior. We installed 8.25-inch HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill boards, adding new 1/2-inch OSB sheathing for a solid, straight base. Fiber cement was the right pick here because it shrugs off 100-degree summers, hail, and limestone-dry heat cycles. The crew also painted the fascia, soffit, gable vents, and front porch railing to finish the look.

The exterior painting component utilized premium Sherwin Williams products to protect and beautify all exposed wood and metal surfaces that weren't covered by the new siding installation. Our painting crew tackled the front porch railings, fascia boards, soffit areas ranging from 25" to 36" in width, and the newly installed vinyl gable vents to ensure complete weather protection. Sherwin Williams' high-performance exterior coatings provide excellent UV resistance and color retention, crucial for withstanding Spicewood's intense summer sun and temperature fluctuations. The coordinated paint application created seamless integration between the new James Hardie siding and existing architectural elements, delivering a unified exterior appearance that enhances both protection and property value.

The homeowner found us through an internet search and reached out on January 19, 2023. They were looking for a durable siding replacement that could handle the Spicewood climate. We moved the inquiry to an active prospect on January 24, 2023.
During the assessment, we inspected the existing siding, trim, and gable vents. We flagged failing sheathing and cracked vinyl vents as items that needed replacement, not just cover-up. That inspection shaped the full scope, including new OSB and a complete repaint.
We built an estimate around 8.25-inch HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill and a full exterior paint package. The homeowner reviewed material options and finish details before signing off. The project was approved on March 3, 2023.
The crew tore off the old siding, replaced compromised 1/2-inch OSB sheathing, and installed the primed Hardie boards. They also swapped the vinyl gable vents and painted the fascia, soffit, and front porch railing. All install and paint work finished on May 12, 2023.
After a final walkthrough, we handled two rounds of yard cleanup and punch-out items. The James Hardie manufacturer warranty covers the new siding going forward. The job was invoiced on May 12, 2023 and closed on May 25, 2023.
We re-clad this Spicewood home in 78669 with James Hardie fiber cement siding, then painted the full exterior to match. The result is a tighter, tougher shell built for Central Texas weather.
Homes out in the Hill Country take a beating that most people underestimate. This one showed the wear you'd expect after years of 100-degree summers and spring hail.
Once the old siding came down, we got a real look at the wall behind it. The sheathing had soft, uneven spots, so we didn't just skin over the problem. We installed fresh 1/2" OSB sheathing across the affected areas to give the new boards a flat, solid nail base. This matters more than most homeowners think. If you hang new siding over a wavy or weak substrate, every dip telegraphs through, and fasteners lose their grip during freeze-and-heat swings. A straight base is why this finish looks crisp and stays put.
We chose James Hardie 8.25" HardiePlank in the Select Cedar Mill texture. Fiber cement is the smart call in Spicewood, and here's the real reason. It doesn't feed the moisture-and-heat cycle that makes wood cup and vinyl soften. Cedar pollen season coats everything out here, and Hardie's dense surface wipes down without staining. The 8.25-inch reveal gives a broad, clean shadow line that suits Hill Country home styles. We ran it primed, then finished on site so the color and caulk lines were sealed as one system.
This was a same-day install and finish, wrapped up May 12, 2023. The crew moved fast because the prep work behind it was done right.
The home now has a uniform, weather-ready exterior that reads as new construction. Boards, trim, vents, and railing all share one finish, so nothing looks patched.
The homeowner approved the job on March 3, 2023, and we completed the install and paint in a single day on May 12, 2023. The gap was material ordering and scheduling, not on-site delays.
Our summers push past 100 degrees and hail comes through most springs. Fiber cement holds its shape and finish through both, unlike wood or vinyl, which is why it's our default for Hill Country exteriors.
This retail siding and paint package fell in the $25,000 to $30,000 range. Final pricing depends on wall square footage, sheathing repairs, and paint scope.
Yes. James Hardie backs its fiber cement products with a long-term manufacturer warranty, and our workmanship stands behind the install. We closed the job on May 25, 2023 after the final walkthrough.
