Scope of Work

What We Did

James Hardie 8.25-inch Select Cedar Mill Fiber Cement Siding · Sherwin Williams Super Paint on Siding and Coordinated Exterior Surfaces

Siding

This Siding in Austin, TX project used James Hardie 8.25-inch Select Cedar Mill fiber cement boards. We included garage door jamb wraps and removed and framed in gable vent openings. Fiber cement was chosen for an exterior exposed to Central Texas heat. The finished siding ties those details into a consistent wall surface.

Inside This Project

Why was this Anderson Mill siding job more than a board replacement?

The homeowner reached out after an online search on July 22, 2025. During our July 29 inspection, we assessed a scope that reached beyond the main siding surfaces. Garage door jambs, gable vent openings, and shutters all needed to fit the finished exterior. That matters because new boards alone would not complete the areas where different parts of the home meet.

The plan called for wrapping the garage door jambs, including a split double opening with two singles. It also included removing and framing in gable vent openings, then installing shutters and gable vents. Those are easy details to miss if you focus only on how the siding looks from the street. We accounted for them before the homeowner approved the project on July 30, rather than treating them as an afterthought during installation.

Why choose fiber cement and a separate paint scope for this home?

We used 8.25-inch Select Cedar Mill fiber cement siding from James Hardie for the wall work. Its cedar-mill texture gives the boards a wood-look surface, while the material is fiber cement rather than wood. For an Austin exterior facing 100°+ summer days, that distinction was part of the material choice. It does not mean any siding can be installed without careful work around openings and adjacent trim.

The project also called for primed Select Cedar Mill boards and a separate finish-paint step. That kept the siding selection distinct from the paint work: the boards supplied the new surface, and the coating completed the planned appearance. Sherwin Williams Super Paint was specified for the siding. We also planned paint for nearby features, so the new wall finish would not stop abruptly at the fascia, soffit, or garage.

How did the four-day installation unfold?

The crew worked on site from August 30 through September 2, 2025. This was a multi-day siding and painting project, not a same-day swap. The scope covered wall boards, framed vent areas, jamb wraps, and final finish work, so each part needed attention within that window.

  • The siding scope listed both primed and Select Cedar Mill 8.25-inch boards.
  • Garage work included a standard jamb wrap and a split double configuration with two singles.
  • The crew removed and framed in gable vent openings as part of the exterior work.
  • Shutter and gable vent installation formed a separate step in the planned labor.
  • Two yard cleanups and punch items were included before the crew finished.

Those smaller tasks are part of a complete installation. A garage opening has different edges than a broad wall, and a vent opening interrupts the board layout. The work list gave our crew a clear way to address both without describing the job as siding alone.

What did the exterior painters cover?

The paint work reached well beyond the new boards. In addition to Super Paint on the siding, the scope covered fascia and soffit up to 24 inches, garage doors, and a set of two shutters. Those separate surfaces matter when you judge the finished exterior, even though they are not all made of the same material.

  • The garage doors received paint; the project did not call for new garage doors.
  • The two shutters had their own paint item as well as an installation item.
  • Fascia and soffit painting was limited to the specified up-to-24-inch areas.
  • Painting followed a siding scope that included primed boards, rather than relying on the board texture alone for the final look.

Austin's cedar pollen can leave a visible film on outdoor surfaces, so homeowners should keep that in mind when looking after fresh paint. That is a maintenance point, not a claim that pollen caused the work here. The project scope identifies what we painted; it does not assign a cause to the home's earlier condition.

What was complete when the crew left Anderson Mill?

On September 2, the crew finished the on-site siding and exterior paint work. The completed scope brought together the Select Cedar Mill walls, wrapped garage jambs, vent details, painted shutters, and painted trim areas. It was a broader exterior update than a single-material installation.

  • The siding work included punch-out items at the end of the project.
  • The closeout scope called for two yard cleanups.
  • Painted garage doors remained part of the existing garage door setup.
  • The work combined two services at one Anderson Mill property in Austin's 78726 ZIP code.

A useful way to review a project like this is to look past the largest wall. Check the places where boards meet openings and where the paint scope changes surfaces. Here, those places were named in the plan and included in the crew's on-site work.
