Why did this Austin home need new siding?

Older exteriors around 78729 take a beating here. Summer heat over 100 degrees, spring hail, and constant cedar pollen wear down wood siding fast. This home was ready for a material that would stop that cycle.

What material did we use, and why?

We chose James Hardie fiber cement in the HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill 8.25" profile. That board gives the warm grain of real cedar without the maintenance headaches wood brings. Fiber cement holds up to Austin's heat, resists hail impact, and won't feed the moisture problems that plague older wood exteriors. It also stands up to the pests and rot that come with our humid stretches. The wider 8.25" reveal gives the walls a clean, modern rhythm that suits homes built in this era.

What did the siding scope include?

This was more than swapping boards. We wrapped every trim detail so the new exterior read as one clean package.

• Wrapped window beams with 3/8" JH material, per beam and per floor
• Wrapped posts and porch columns in matching Hardie trim
• Therma Wrap installed as the weather barrier behind the siding

How did the exterior painting tie it together?

Once the siding was set, our painters coated the exterior in Sherwin Williams Exterior Latex with a satin sheen. Satin was the right call because it cleans easily and holds color through relentless Austin sun. The finish pulled every surface into one consistent scheme.
