James Hardie Select Cedar Mill 8.25" Fiber Cement Siding Installation | Full Exterior Repaint with Sherwin Williams SuperPaint

This Austin siding project used James Hardie Select Cedar Mill fiber cement in the 8.25-inch profile. We removed failing siding sections and installed the primed cedar-mill boards for a durable, low-maintenance exterior. Fiber cement was chosen because it shrugs off hail, heat, and moisture far better than wood. The finished siding gives this 78749-area home a sharp, modern look built to last.

Our exterior painting scope covered the fresh siding plus trim and accent surfaces using Sherwin Williams SuperPaint. We painted the fascia and soffit up to 24 inches, both garage doors, the entry door, and a pair of shutters. SuperPaint was picked for its strong UV and fade resistance in the harsh Central Texas sun. The whole exterior now reads clean and cohesive from the curb.

The homeowner found Austin Pro through an internet search and reached out on October 21, 2024. They wanted to address worn siding and give the exterior a full refresh in one coordinated project.
By October 29, 2024, we had inspected the exterior and identified the failing siding sections. The old boards showed heat and moisture damage that ruled out simply repainting over them.
We built a combined scope for siding replacement and exterior painting, then reviewed material and color choices. The homeowner approved the plan on December 2, 2024, locking in James Hardie Select Cedar Mill and Sherwin Williams SuperPaint.
On March 11, 2025, the crew removed the worn siding sections and installed the 8.25-inch primed Cedar Mill boards. Painters followed behind, coating the siding, fascia, soffit, garage doors, entry door, and two shutters in the same day.
We finished with two rounds of yard cleanup and a full punch list to catch any final touch-ups. The job was invoiced on March 11, 2025, and closed on March 27, 2025, leaving the home with a durable, cohesive exterior.
We replaced failing siding sections with James Hardie fiber cement and repainted the full exterior of this Austin home, finishing the whole job in a single day on March 11, 2025.
The old siding on this home had reached the end of its life. Sections had swelled and cracked from years of heat cycling and moisture, which is common on older homes around southwest Austin.
When we pulled the worn sections, the damage told a clear story. Sun-baked panels had pulled away at the fasteners, and the surface was too rough to hold paint well. This is the part most homeowners get wrong: they try to paint over tired siding, but no coating fixes boards that are already failing underneath. You end up paying twice. We flagged the specific sections that needed replacement and left the sound material in place, which kept the scope focused and the cost in the $10k–$15k range.
We installed James Hardie Select Cedar Mill siding in the 8.25-inch profile. Fiber cement was the right call for this climate, and here's why.
Wood siding looks good on day one, but Austin punishes it. Cedar pollen, driving rain, and 100-degree summers work every seam until the boards cup and split. Fiber cement doesn't feed rot and won't warp in the heat the way wood does. It also stands up to hail far better, which matters in Central Texas. The primed Select Cedar Mill texture keeps the warm cedar-grain look without the upkeep, so the homeowner gets curb appeal that lasts.
Once the siding was set, our painters coated the whole exterior with Sherwin Williams SuperPaint. We picked SuperPaint for its fade and UV resistance, which is exactly what a south-facing Austin wall needs.
The home now has a unified, sharp exterior from siding to trim. Every surface carries the same clean finish, and the new boards give the walls a solid, modern feel.
Our summers run past 100 degrees and our storms bring hail, both of which age wood fast. Fiber cement resists rot, holds paint longer, and takes an impact without splitting.
The install and paint work were completed in one day, on March 11, 2025. The full journey from approval in December to final close-out ran about three months, mostly scheduling.
This combined siding and painting job fell in the $10k–$15k range. Your number depends on how much siding needs replacing and how many surfaces get painted.
Yes. SuperPaint adds a UV-resistant layer over the primed Hardie boards, which helps the color hold through years of intense Central Texas sun.
