Why did this Buda home need new siding?

Older exteriors in Buda take a beating. Between 100-degree summers, spring hail, and cedar pollen working into every seam, wood-based siding starts to swell, split, and peel. This homeowner wanted a low-maintenance fix, not another repaint in five years.

What did we use for the siding, and why?

We installed James Hardie HardiePlank in the Select Cedar Mill texture, an 8.25-inch primed lap board. Fiber cement is the right call here for a simple reason: it doesn't feed on Texas weather the way wood does. Hail that would dent or crack lesser siding tends to bounce off it, and it won't warp when the mercury climbs past 100. We also swapped in JH fascia and soffit, framed in the gable vent, and wrapped both the single and double garage door jambs so the whole envelope matched. Every board and trim piece then got sealed with Sherwin Williams SuperPaint for a uniform, durable finish.

How did the paint and finish work come together?

Paint went on right after the siding was set, over the next few days. We used Sherwin Williams SuperPaint across the siding, fascia, soffit, porch ceiling, doors, garage doors, and a set of shutters. That single system keeps the color consistent and stands up to Central Texas UV.

What happened with the shingle roof?

Once the siding punch-out and yard cleanup were done, we moved up to the roof. The old shingles came off and a new shingle system went on, wrapping the whole job by July 20. Doing the roof last kept debris off the brand-new siding and paint below.

What did the crew watch for on this job?

The tricky part of a combined siding-and-roof job is order and cleanup. Get it wrong and you're pressure-washing shingle grit off fresh paint, or nail-hunting in a yard the homeowner walks barefoot. We ran the full siding install and paint first, completed punch-out, then double-cleaned the yard before roofing even started. A homeowner trying to bundle these trades on their own usually schedules them backward and ends up redoing paint.
