Complete James Hardie HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill Siding Installation | Full Sherwin Williams Satin Exterior Repaint with Hardie-Clad Trim

We installed James Hardie fiber cement siding on this Austin home in the 78745 area. The material was HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill in the 8.25" profile, over new 1/2" OSB sheathing. Fiber cement resists rot, hail, and 100-degree heat far better than old wood siding. We also clad the existing trim in Hardie for a fully matched, low-maintenance exterior.

We paired the new siding with a complete exterior repaint using Sherwin Williams Exterior Latex in satin. The scope covered the siding, fascia, soffit up to 24 inches, and the porch ceiling. Satin latex holds up well against Austin's UV, heat, and cedar pollen. Two yard cleans and punch items closed out the job with a clean, finished look.

The homeowner found us through Google Reviews and Maps, then reached out on October 18, 2022. They wanted to replace a tired exterior on their South Austin home in the 78745 area. Our first conversation focused on moving from failing wood siding to a longer-lasting fiber cement system.
We inspected the existing exterior and found siding that could no longer handle Austin's heat and hail. The trim also needed attention, so we planned to clad it in Hardie to match. We confirmed new sheathing would be needed for a proper, flat base.
We built an estimate covering James Hardie HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill 8.25", new 1/2" OSB sheathing, and a full Sherwin Williams repaint. The homeowner approved the project on November 4, 2022. Material orders were placed through ABC Supply Co. for delivery.
The crew executed the main install on March 23, 2023. We set new 1/2" OSB sheathing, installed the HardiePlank siding, and clad the existing trim. Then we painted the siding, fascia, soffit up to 24 inches, and porch ceiling in satin latex.
We finished with two rounds of yard clean and a full punch-out to catch every detail. The home came out with a durable, hail-ready exterior and a crisp satin finish. The job was invoiced on March 23, 2023 and formally closed on May 12, 2023.
We stripped and rebuilt the exterior of this South Austin home with James Hardie fiber cement siding, then finished it with a full Sherwin Williams repaint. The old wood exterior became a durable, weather-ready shell in a single project.
Older South Austin homes often run wood or hardboard siding that fails over time. Heat, hail, and moisture break down those old boards fast. This exterior was ready for a full replacement, not another patch.
We chose James Hardie fiber cement in the Select Cedar Mill 8.25" profile. Fiber cement shrugs off rot, pests, and Texas heat in ways wood never could. It also holds paint longer, which matters here.
Cedar pollen and moisture are hard on wood exteriors. Fiber cement gives you the cedar mill texture while resisting all of that.
Once the siding was up, we sealed the whole home with Sherwin Williams Exterior Latex in a satin finish. Satin holds up against UV and washes clean of pollen and dust. It gave the home a crisp, uniform coat.
Paint on fiber cement lasts far longer than paint on old wood. That combo is the real value of doing both services at once.
We ran this as a coordinated single-day install push on March 23, 2023, after months of planning. The crew handled sheathing, siding, trim cladding, and paint prep in sequence. Harbison Electric supported any electrical detachment and reset work.
The home now wears a low-maintenance, storm-ready exterior with a clean satin finish. Fiber cement and a quality repaint work together to protect the structure for decades. The homeowner gets far less upkeep going forward.
Fiber cement resists rot, hail, and the 100-degree heat that breaks down old wood siding. It holds paint longer and stands up to cedar pollen and moisture. That makes it a strong fit for older South Austin homes.
The lead came in October 2022 and was approved in November 2022. The install wrapped on March 23, 2023, with the job closed May 12, 2023 after punch-out.
This siding and exterior painting job fell in the $20k–$25k range. Final pricing depends on home size, siding condition, and paint scope.
Yes. We used Sherwin Williams Exterior Latex in satin on the siding, fascia, soffit up to 24 inches, and the porch ceiling. Painting fresh fiber cement helps the finish last much longer than paint on old wood.
