What We Did

Andersen 100 Series Fibrex Composite Window Installation · Two Provia Doors with Exterior Hardie Trim

Windows

This Windows in Austin, TX project replaced one opening with an Andersen 100 Series window. Its Fibrex composite frame was chosen for a home facing long, hot summers. We installed 1 x 4 Hardie trim around the window. Caulk and paint finished the exterior edge.

Doors

This Doors in Austin, TX project included two Provia doors. We paired the door installation with new Hardie trim at the exterior openings. That separate trim work gave us a clear place to caulk and paint the edges. The result was two installed doors with finished exterior surrounds.

Inside This Project

Why replace one window and two doors together?

This South River City job had a focused scope: one window and two doors, not a whole-house replacement. Handling the three openings together let us plan the installation and exterior finish work as one project. That matters in Austin, where summer temperatures regularly top 100°F and an unfinished opening needs prompt attention. It also gave the homeowner one plan for the trim work tied to both trades.

A small replacement project still calls for careful boundaries. Installing a new unit is only part of the job; the area around it needs a clean finish. Here, the scope included trim around the window and exterior trim for both doors. We kept those items in the plan rather than treating them as an afterthought once the new units were in place.

What happened before the crew arrived?

The homeowner, who had worked with us before, reached out on April 1, 2025. We inspected the home and began the estimate on April 3, then the homeowner approved the project on May 9. Those dates describe the decision process, not days spent installing the products.

  • The estimate covered an Andersen 100 Series replacement window rather than a group of windows.
  • Door work covered two Provia units, even though the installation scope described a standard entry or back-door opening.
  • The plan included window installation labor and materials for the work around the openings.

Why use these materials at the openings?

We used an Andersen 100 Series Fibrex composite replacement window for the single window opening. Austin's long, hot summers make the frame material worth considering, but the frame alone does not finish a replacement. The scope also called for OSI closed-cell spray foam at the installation. Foam addresses the space around the unit; it is not a substitute for finishing the exposed exterior edge.

For that edge, we installed 1-by-4 James Hardie trim at the window and purchased Hardie trim for the two doors. The work also included Sherwin Williams Power House 60-year white caulk, plus caulk and paint on the trim. A homeowner can easily focus on the new window or door and miss this part of the scope. On a house exposed to Austin heat and seasonal cedar pollen, the finish around an opening deserves its own place in the plan.

How did installation work across two days?

Our crew worked on site from June 23 through June 24, 2025. During that window, we installed the replacement window and two doors, then completed the specified exterior trim work. This was a two-day installation, not a same-day visit.

  • The window scope called for one installation, with trim around that opening.
  • The door scope included installation at the home's entry or back-door openings.
  • OSI foam cleaner was among the installation materials for the foam work.
  • A dump fee was included for removal of project debris.

The crew finished on June 24. A combined window-and-door job can sound simple because it involves only three units, but each opening has its own installation and finish tasks. We accounted for those tasks in the on-site window rather than describing the work as three quick swaps.

What was finished at the end of the project?

By the end of the second day, the South River City home had one Andersen window and two Provia doors installed. The specified work also covered Hardie trim at the window and both doors, with caulk and paint on the trim. That is the useful measure of completion here: the openings and their planned exterior details were addressed together.

  • The replacement window was the only window in the project scope.
  • Both doors belonged to the same installation, rather than a later phase.
  • The crew's final on-site day was June 24, 2025.

Straight Answers

Questions About This Project

How long did this South River City installation take?

The crew spent two days on site, June 23 and 24. The April inspection and May approval happened earlier and were not part of the installation window.

Does the Fibrex window remove the need for work around the frame?

No. This Andersen 100 Series installation also called for foam, exterior trim, and caulk around the opening. Those details have a different job from the window frame itself.

What was the project value range?

The project was in the $5k–$10k value band. The Provia door portion was listed under $2k; those bands are not a quote for a different home.

Was a warranty or follow-up visit included?

No warranty term or follow-up visit is specified for this project. If you are comparing a similar window-and-door scope, ask which product and installation terms apply to your own openings.
