James Hardie HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill Siding Replacement | Full Sherwin Williams Exterior Painting Package

We installed James Hardie HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill siding on this Round Rock home in early August. The 8.25" primed fiber cement boards resist warping, rot, and hail. New 1/2" OSB sheathing was added underneath for a flat, sturdy surface. Fiber cement suits Central Texas homes because it stands up to 100-degree summers and sudden storms.

Exterior painting followed the siding work as the second phase of this Messick Loop project. We used Sherwin Williams paint on the fascia, soffit, garage doors, and shutters. Priming and coating fresh Hardie boards seals the surface against UV and moisture. The result is a clean, uniform look that protects the home for years.

The homeowner found Austin Pro through an internet search and reached out on June 16, 2023. The early conversation centered on replacing worn exterior siding and refreshing the paint on this Messick Loop home.
We inspected the existing siding and the walls behind it, moving the lead to prospect on June 23, 2023. The old cladding showed clear wear from years of heat and storms, and we flagged sheathing that would need attention once opened up.
We built a scope covering 8.25" HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill siding plus a full exterior paint package. The homeowner approved the project on June 26, 2023, locking in materials, fascia and soffit work, and the Sherwin Williams color plan.
The crew installed new siding over several days in early August, adding 1/2" OSB sheathing, wrapping the double garage door jambs, and removing the old gutters. Exterior painting followed shortly after, covering the siding, fascia, soffit, two shutters, and the garage doors.
After a punch walk to handle final touch-ups, the project was completed and invoiced on September 8, 2023. The home came out with a tight fiber cement exterior and a clean, uniform finish, and the job closed on September 22, 2023.
We stripped the aging siding off this home on Messick Loop in Round Rock and rebuilt the exterior with James Hardie fiber cement, then finished it with a full Sherwin Williams paint job. The house went from weathered and tired to sharp and storm-ready.
The old cladding had taken years of Central Texas abuse. Sun, hail, and swings between dry heat and heavy storms had left it worn and no longer sealing well.
Once we pulled the old boards, we got a close look at what was underneath. Some of the sheathing had lost its integrity from years of moisture and movement, which is common on older homes sitting on shifting limestone soil. Rather than patch over questionable spots, we installed fresh 1/2" OSB sheathing across the sections we opened up. That gave us a flat, solid nailing surface for the new Hardie boards. Skipping this step is where a lot of siding jobs go wrong, because new siding over a bad substrate never sits right and traps problems out of sight.
We went with 8.25" HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill, a primed fiber cement board with a wood-grain look. Fiber cement was the clear choice for this climate and this house.
Why fiber cement over the wood it replaced? Wood siding in Central Texas is a maintenance treadmill. It cups, it rots at the bottom courses, and it needs constant repainting. Hardie boards hold paint longer, resist insects, and stand up to the kind of storm season we get every spring. For a homeowner who wants to stop fighting their exterior, it is the right long-term call.
We ran the project in two clear phases. Siding installation happened over several days in early August, and painting followed once the boards were set and ready.
The home now has a tight, uniform exterior built to handle whatever Round Rock weather throws at it. The fresh paint pulls the siding, trim, and garage doors into one clean look.
The homeowner first reached out in mid-June, and we had the work approved by June 26, 2023. Siding installation ran across several days in early August, with painting close behind, and the job wrapped September 8, 2023.
Fiber cement handles our brutal summers and spring hail without warping, rotting, or cracking. It also holds a painted finish far longer than wood, which cuts down on repaint cycles in a climate that punishes exteriors.
This was a retail project in the $30,000 to $40,000 range. That covered full siding replacement, new sheathing, gutter disposal, and a complete Sherwin Williams paint package on siding, trim, shutters, and garage doors.
Yes. We install the primed boards first, then apply the finish coats once everything is set. Painting fresh fiber cement seals it against UV and moisture and gives the whole home a consistent color.
