Siding

James Hardie

This Maple Run project replaced worn siding with James Hardie HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill in an 8.25-inch reveal. We chose fiber cement because it shrugs off 100-degree summers, cedar pollen, and hail that wreck older wood siding. The crew also clad the garage door jamb and a bird's mouth section for a tight, weather-sealed look. The finished exterior gives this aging Austin home real curb appeal and decades of durability.

Exterior Painting

Sherwin Williams

We coated the whole exterior with Sherwin Williams SuperPaint over the primed Hardie boards. The scope reached fascia and soffit up to 24 inches, garage doors, shutters, gutters, downspouts, and the front door. We also painted the front porch ceiling and the underside of the back patio cover. SuperPaint was picked for its fade resistance under relentless Central Texas sun.

First Contact

This homeowner was a past client and reached back out through our salesman on December 3, 2025. The conversation focused on replacing worn siding and refreshing the full exterior of their Maple Run home.

Evaluation

We inspected the home and found the original siding past its service life, common for homes of this era in southwest Austin. The garage door jamb and a first-floor bird's mouth stood out as spots needing cladding before any siding or paint.

PLanning & Approval

We built out a scope covering HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill siding plus a complete exterior repaint. The homeowner approved the project on December 23, 2025, which moved it into the prospect stage.

Installation

The crew hung 8.25-inch primed Cedar Mill boards, clad the garage door jamb and the right-side bird's mouth, then coated everything in Sherwin Williams SuperPaint. Work ran across multiple days and included fascia, soffit, garage doors, shutters, gutters, the front door, porch ceiling, and back patio cover.

Completion

The project wrapped on February 26, 2026, with two rounds of yard cleanup and punch-out to finish. We walked the property to confirm every surface was clean and sealed, and the job closed out March 19, 2026.

Why did this Maple Run home need new siding?

Maple Run is full of homes from the 1980s and 1990s, and the original wood-based siding on this one had run its course. Years of sun and moisture had taken a toll, and it was no longer holding paint the way it should.

  • Old siding showed wear typical of decades-old Austin exteriors
  • The homeowner came to us as a past client, referred through our salesman
  • We flagged the garage door jamb and a first-floor bird's mouth for cladding

What did the crew find on site?

When we walked the house, the trouble spots were exactly where you'd expect on a home this age. The bird's mouth on the right side of the first floor and the single garage door jamb were prime spots for water and pest intrusion, so both needed proper cladding before anything else. A lot of homeowners skip these transition points and just paint over them, which traps moisture and shortens the life of the whole job. We wrapped those details in Hardie trim to seal them out for good. That kind of prep is quiet work, but it's the difference between a repaint and a real repair.

What materials did we use, and why?

We installed HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill in an 8.25-inch reveal, primed and ready for paint. Fiber cement was the clear pick here for a simple reason: it doesn't warp, rot, or feed the pests that plague wood siding in our climate.

  • Cedar Mill texture keeps the warm wood-grain look without the maintenance
  • Fiber cement holds up to hail and 100-degree-plus summers
  • Cedar pollen and limestone-soil moisture won't break it down
  • Materials came through Gtown Lumber and Supply and Southern Shingles

How did the exterior painting come together?

Once the boards were up, we coated the whole exterior in Sherwin Williams SuperPaint. That paint was chosen for its fade and weather resistance, which matters a lot under relentless Central Texas sun. We didn't stop at the siding, either.

  • Painted fascia and soffit up to 24 inches
  • Coated the garage doors, front door, and a set of two shutters
  • Finished gutters and downspouts by the linear foot
  • Painted the front porch ceiling and the underside of the back patio cover

How long did the project take?

The install and paint ran across multiple days and wrapped up on February 26, 2026. Fiber cement siding takes patience to cut, hang, and seal correctly, and rushing it shows. Our crew also handled two rounds of yard cleanup and punch items so the property was left spotless.

  • Lead came in December 3, 2025
  • Approved and moved to prospect December 23, 2025
  • Invoiced and completed February 26, 2026
  • Closed out March 19, 2026

Frequently asked questions

Is fiber cement siding worth it in Austin?

Yes. Fiber cement like HardiePlank resists the hail, heat swings, and moisture that wear down wood siding here. It's a stronger long-term value for aging homes across southwest Austin.

How much does a siding and painting project like this cost?

This job fell in the $25,000 to $30,000 range. Final pricing depends on square footage, cladding details, and how many surfaces need paint.

Why paint over primed Hardie board instead of leaving it?

The primed boards need a finish coat to seal them and lock in color. Sherwin Williams SuperPaint gives the fade resistance that primer alone can't, which keeps the exterior looking fresh for years.

Can you paint gutters, patio covers, and doors in the same job?

Absolutely. On this project we painted the gutters, downspouts, garage doors, front door, shutters, porch ceiling, and back patio cover, all in one coordinated finish.
