What We Did
James Hardie 8.25-Inch Select Cedar Mill Fiber Cement Siding · NT Windows Executive Vinyl Windows Installed Ahead of Siding
Siding
This Siding in Austin, TX project used James Hardie’s 8.25-inch Select Cedar Mill fiber cement boards. The primed siding provided a defined cedar-look profile for the North Star home. Fiber cement was a practical choice for an exterior facing Austin’s 100°+ summers. Sherwin Williams SuperPaint finished the siding and tied the new work into the broader paint scope.

Windows in Austin, TX were part of this North Star exterior project. We installed NT Windows Executive vinyl windows while updating the siding. Vinyl gave the homeowner a window material suited to a coordinated exterior refresh. The window work finished within the same four-day on-site period as the other trades.

Exterior Painting in Austin completed the primed James Hardie siding with Sherwin Williams SuperPaint. The scope also included fascia and soffit painting up to 24 inches. Crews painted the porch ceiling and garage doors as separate parts of the project. Those finishes extended the update beyond the siding boards.
Doors
The Doors in Austin portion of this project called for an NT Windows entry door. We included it in the approved North Star exterior scope. The entry door was distinct from the garage doors, which were painted rather than replaced. Its installation was part of the March 21–24 on-site work.

The Gutters in Austin scope specified seamless aluminum gutters for this home. James Hardie HardieTrim was also identified in that portion of the project. The gutters were included alongside new siding, windows, an entry door, and painting. They formed part of the exterior work finished by March 24.

How It Went
The Journey
From the first phone call to the final walkthrough — what actually happened on this project.
First contact
October 27, 2025The homeowner found us through Yelp and reached out on October 27, 2025. The conversation led to a North Star exterior project centered on siding and windows, with other exterior work included in the final scope.
Evaluation
October 28, 2025We inspected the home and started the estimate on October 28, 2025. The assessment developed into a plan for siding, windows, painting, an entry door, and gutters. We kept material replacement separate from painted surfaces so the scope was clear.
Planning & approval
November 19, 2025The homeowner approved the project on November 19, 2025. We planned for James Hardie Select Cedar Mill siding and NT Windows Executive vinyl windows. The windows and door were ordered in mid-December so those materials could be ready ahead of installation.
Installation
The NT Windows vinyl windows were installed in late February. The later on-site work ran March 21–24, 2026: siding installation took two days, then painting followed. The paint scope included siding, fascia and soffit areas, garage doors, and the porch ceiling.
Completion
March 24, 2026The crew finished its on-site work on March 24, 2026. The completed North Star project included painted fiber cement siding, Executive vinyl windows, an entry door, and seamless aluminum gutters. The scope also called for final punch work and yard cleanup.

Inside This Project
How did this North Star exterior project take shape?
The homeowner found us through Yelp and reached out on October 27, 2025. We inspected the home the next day and began an estimate for work that covered more than one exterior trade. The homeowner approved the project on November 19. Those dates matter because ordering and installation were separate parts of this job, not a single four-day process. Windows and a door were ordered in mid-December, well before the March siding work.
For a project like this, sequence affects the finished exterior. Installing windows before siding meant the crew could complete that trade first, then move on to the surrounding exterior work. A homeowner looking only at the March completion date might miss that the windows had already been installed in late February. We kept those parts of the schedule distinct.
Why use Select Cedar Mill fiber cement siding here?
We used 8.25-inch primed Select Cedar Mill fiber cement siding for the North Star home. Its textured face provides a cedar-grain appearance, while the material avoids using wood boards for that look. That distinction is worth discussing in Austin, where exterior surfaces face 100°+ summer heat. We chose a primed product because painting was already part of the scope, allowing the siding finish to join the broader exterior paint work.
The siding followed the February window installation and took two days, according to the project notes. Painting came afterward. That order is easy to overlook: a completed window installation does not mean the siding, painted trim areas, and final cleanup are finished too. Each trade needed its own place in the schedule.
What else was included beyond siding and windows?
The exterior work extended to an entry door, seamless aluminum gutters, and painted surfaces around the home. These items made the job broader than a siding replacement, but they did not change the order of the window and siding installations. The paint scope also reached areas a siding-only summary would leave out.
- The entry door was an NT Windows product; the project details do not name a door model.
- James Hardie HardieTrim was listed alongside the gutter work. HardieTrim is a trim product, not the material of the aluminum gutters.
- The fascia and soffit paint scope extended up to 24 inches.
- Garage doors and the porch ceiling were included in the painting scope.
How did the March installation and finish work proceed?
The on-site window for the later exterior work ran from March 21 through March 24, 2026. Siding installation occupied two days, with painting following it. We also had punch-out work and two yard cleanups in the scope. That is why I would describe March as a multi-day siding and finish-work window, not a one-day siding job.
- The siding scope called for primed Select Cedar Mill boards in an 8.25-inch profile.
- Sherwin Williams SuperPaint was specified for the siding finish.
- Painting also covered the fascia, soffit, garage doors, and porch ceiling.
- The crew finished its on-site work on March 24.
What did the completed work bring together?
The result was one coordinated exterior update rather than five unrelated service visits. NT Windows Executive vinyl windows were in place before the siding crew arrived, and the painted siding finished the larger visual change. The entry door, gutter work, and additional painted areas rounded out the scope. For a homeowner comparing project dates, the key point is simple: the March 24 finish followed window installation in February and several days of exterior work in March.
Straight Answers
Questions About This Project
Did the siding and windows go in during the same four days?
No. The NT Windows Executive windows were installed in late February. March 21–24 was the on-site window for the later siding and finish work.
How long did the siding installation itself take?
The project notes describe the siding as a two-day installation, followed by painting. The crew completed the overall on-site work on March 24, 2026.
Why choose fiber cement for a cedar-look exterior in Austin?
James Hardie Select Cedar Mill provides a textured cedar appearance in fiber cement rather than wood. That was a practical fit for the look planned here, especially given Austin’s long, hot summers.
What was the project’s price range?
The combined scope fell in the $25k–$30k range. That range covers the project’s services, including siding, windows, painting, a door, and gutters; it is not a siding-only figure.
