James Hardie HardiePlank 8.25" Smooth Lap Siding Installation | Full Exterior Repaint with Sherwin Williams Duration

This Scenic Brook project used James Hardie HardiePlank Lap Siding in an 8.25-inch smooth profile. We installed it over fresh 1/2-inch OSB sheathing for a flat, stable base. Fiber cement was the right call for Austin's 100-degree summers, hail, and heavy cedar pollen. The finished siding resists rot, pests, and heat that would warp lesser materials.

The exterior painting used Sherwin Williams Duration, a premium coating chosen for Texas sun and humidity. We coated the new siding, garage doors, porch soffit, and fascia and soffit up to 24 inches. Duration was chosen for its long color hold and moisture seal. The result is a uniform, protected finish across the home's exterior.

The homeowner found Austin Pro through an internet search and reached out on April 19, 2023. They were looking to replace tired exterior siding on their Scenic Brook home. We set up an on-site visit to talk through options.
During the assessment we looked closely at the existing cladding and the wall structure behind it. We flagged the need for fresh sheathing to guarantee a flat base. The prospect stage was reached on May 11, 2023.
We built the estimate around James Hardie HardiePlank and a full Sherwin Williams Duration paint scope. The homeowner approved the project on May 12, 2023. Selections included the 8.25-inch smooth profile and the brick pocket detail.
The crew installed 1/2-inch OSB sheathing, then hung the HardiePlank Lap Siding over several days. Painting followed once the siding was set. Work included the garage doors, porch soffit, and fascia and soffit up to 24 inches.
We ran two yard cleanups and completed all punch items for a clean finish. The home now has a sealed, weather-ready exterior.
We re-sided a Scenic Brook home in Austin with James Hardie fiber cement and finished it with a full Sherwin Williams Duration paint job. The old exterior came off, new sheathing went on, and the home now stands up to Central Texas weather far better than before.
Homes in Scenic Brook tend to date from the 1980s and 1990s, and their original siding rarely survives decades of Austin sun. Heat cycling, hail hits, and cedar pollen packed into old seams all take a toll. This home was ready for a full exterior reset.
When we pulled the old material, we checked the wall structure underneath before committing to new siding. That step matters more than most homeowners realize. Sheathing that has softened or shifted will telegraph every flaw straight through brand-new siding, no matter how good the product is. We installed fresh 1/2-inch OSB sheathing to give the HardiePlank a dead-flat, solid base. That single decision is what keeps the finished walls looking straight years down the road.
We went with HardiePlank Lap Siding in an 8.25-inch smooth profile. Fiber cement is engineered for exactly the conditions we get here. It will not warp in 100-degree-plus heat, it resists hail impact, and pests leave it alone.
Once the siding was up, we coated it with Sherwin Williams Duration, then carried the finish across the rest of the exterior. Duration was the upcharge choice for a reason. It holds color under relentless UV and seals the fiber cement against moisture.
Materials came through Home Depot and ABC Supply Co., with paint from Sherwin Williams. We ran two rounds of yard cleanup and punch-out so nothing was left behind. The job invoiced and completed on September 8, 2023.
This one was approved in May 2023 and completed by September 8, 2023. Scheduling, material lead times, and a full paint system all factor into the calendar. The active install ran over several days in early fall.
Our summers push past 100 degrees, and spring brings hail and thick cedar pollen. James Hardie fiber cement handles that mix without warping, cracking, or feeding pests. It is one of the most reliable exterior choices for this climate.
This job fell in the $15,000 to $20,000 range. Final pricing depends on the amount of siding, sheathing needs, and the paint system selected. We quote every home after seeing the actual walls.
Duration was a deliberate upgrade over standard exterior paint. It offers stronger UV resistance and a better moisture seal, which matters on fiber cement in Central Texas sun. The color stays truer for longer.
