Why did this Northeast Austin home need new siding?
The old siding had reached the end of its life. Moisture had crept behind it, and the trim was breaking down.

What did we find behind the old siding?
Once we pulled the old cladding, the real story showed up. Parts of the 7/16" OSB wall sheathing had absorbed water over the years and lost their structural bite. That is common on older Austin homes, where limestone soil shifts and slow leaks go unnoticed for a long time. We replaced the bad sheathing before a single new board went up. Skipping that step is the mistake most homeowners never see coming — new siding over rotten sheathing just hides the problem.

What materials did we use, and why?
We went with James Hardie 8.25" Select Cedar Mill fiber cement. It carries a real cedar wood-grain texture without the upkeep of actual wood. Fiber cement holds up where Austin punishes most: 100-degree summers, spring hail, and the constant swing between wet and bone-dry. It will not warp, and it does not feed rot or pests the way old wood siding can. That mix of looks and durability is why it is our go-to for homes in this part of town.
