NT Windows

This Scenic Bluff project centered on full window replacement using the NT Windows Executive line. We ordered the units on June 5 and installed them over a couple of days in late July. The Executive series was chosen for its tight seals and heat performance, which matter in 100-degree Austin summers. The result was a quieter, more efficient home with cleaner sightlines.

Siding

The siding work paired new windows with 8.25-inch Select Cedar Mill lap boards, both primed and unprimed. We wrapped the double garage door jamb and coated the fascia, soffit, and gutters. Everything got finished in Sherwin Williams Super Paint for long-term protection. The fresh cedar-mill profile gives the home a sharp, durable exterior that stands up to hail and sun.

First Contact

This homeowner came to us through a customer referral, with the salesman making the first connection. The relationship started back in mid-2022 and stayed warm through the planning stages. When the timing was right, the conversation turned to a full exterior update in Scenic Bluff.

Evaluation

We walked the exterior to confirm what needed to happen and in what order. The original windows had failed seals, and the siding showed years of sun and weather wear. We also flagged the fascia, soffit, gutters, and double garage door jamb for attention.

PLanning & Approval

The project moved into approval on May 16, 2025, after selections were locked in. We specified the NT Windows Executive line and 8.25-inch cedar-mill lap siding, with Sherwin Williams Super Paint for the finish. Windows were ordered June 5 to get the long-lead units into production early.

Installation

The windows arrived mid-July, and the crew installed them over a couple of days late in the month. Siding began in early August and took multiple days to hang and fasten across the home. The paint phase followed shortly after, covering siding, trim, doors, garage doors, and metal.

Completion

We finished with the punch-out on Aug 15, 2025, including two yard cleanups and a run through the punch list. The finished exterior now seals against heat and pollen while looking freshly built.

Why did this Scenic Bluff home need new windows and siding?

Homes in this part of West Austin tend to date from the 1980s and 1990s. Original windows lose their seals over decades, and hot air starts sneaking in. That drives up cooling bills fast when July hits triple digits.

The siding told the same story. Years of sun, wind-driven rain, and the occasional hailstorm had left the old cladding weathered and thirsty for paint.

  • Old window seals had given out, letting heat and outside noise in
  • Existing siding showed sun fade and moisture wear
  • The homeowner wanted one coordinated refresh, not two separate jobs

What did we find during the inspection?

Once we walked the exterior, the plan came together quickly. This was a referral job, so trust was already there, and the homeowner knew exactly what bugged them. The window frames were the clear priority, with the siding a close second.

We confirmed the openings would take the NT Windows Executive units cleanly, which kept the install straightforward. That matters on older Austin homes, where framing can shift over the years on limestone-heavy soil.

  • Window openings measured square enough for a clean retrofit
  • Fascia and soffit needed fresh paint up to 24 inches
  • Gutters and downspouts were flagged for coating, not replacement
  • The double garage door jamb needed new wrap

What materials did we use, and why?

We went with the NT Windows Executive line because it holds up in the exact conditions Austin throws at a home. Cedar pollen coats everything each spring, and a window that seals tight keeps more of that dust outside. The Executive series also handles thermal swings well, which matters when a wall bakes at 100-plus degrees by afternoon and cools off overnight. NT Windows builds locally in Texas, so the units are engineered for this climate rather than a milder one. That regional fit is a big reason we specify them on West Austin homes.

For the siding, we used 8.25-inch Cedar Mill lap boards in both primed and Select grades. Priming the boards before paint gives the topcoat something to grip, so the finish lasts longer. We sealed it all with Sherwin Williams Super Paint, a workhorse coating that resists fade under relentless Texas sun.

  • 8.25" Primed Select Cedar Mill for the main wall runs
  • 8.25" Select Cedar Mill where a natural profile fit best
  • Double garage door jamb wrapped for a clean, sealed edge
  • Fascia, soffit, gutters, doors, and garage doors all painted to match

How did the installation go?

The windows arrived mid-July, and the crew set them over a couple of days in late July. Siding followed in early August and took multiple days across the exterior. Paint came right after.

We closed out with a full punch on Aug 15, including two rounds of yard cleanup so nothing was left behind. The exterior painting crew handled every surface, from the wide siding runs to the tight jamb wraps.

  • Windows installed first to lock in the tightest openings
  • Siding hung and fastened over several working days
  • Sherwin Williams Super Paint applied to siding, trim, and metal
  • Two yard cleanups plus a final punch-out on completion day

What were the results?

The home now reads as a single, finished project rather than a patchwork of ages. New windows seal against heat and pollen, and the cedar-mill siding gives crisp, shadow-lined walls. Painted gutters, doors, and garage doors tie the whole exterior together.

  • A quieter interior with fewer drafts in summer
  • A uniform, freshly painted exterior built for Austin sun
  • Wrapped jambs and coated metal for long-term moisture protection

Frequently asked questions

How long did the whole project take?

Windows were ordered June 5 and arrived mid-July, with install wrapping in late July. Siding, paint, and the final punch ran through Aug 15. The install stretch itself was tight; most of the calendar was lead time on the units.

Why NT Windows Executive for an Austin home?

The Executive line is built in Texas for Texas weather, so it handles big temperature swings and seals well against cedar pollen. That combination keeps cooling costs and dust down during long triple-digit stretches.

What did this project cost?

This job fell in the $30,000 to $40,000 range. The scope covered full window replacement, new cedar-mill siding, jamb wraps, and a complete exterior repaint, so the value reflects a whole-exterior update rather than a single trade.

Does the painted siding need much upkeep?

Sherwin Williams Super Paint over primed boards holds color and resists fade for years. Occasional rinsing to clear cedar pollen and dust is about all it asks in this climate.
