Why did this Westlake home need new siding?

Older homes around Westlake take a beating from the sun. Decades of heat, hail, and cedar pollen wear down exterior boards until they cup, split, or hold moisture.

This client came back to us as a previous customer, which tells you plenty. They wanted a fix that would outlast the last one.

What did we do with the windows first, and why?

We pulled and replaced the windows before touching the siding. That order matters more than most homeowners realize.

When you set new windows first, you can flash each opening into the wall the right way. Then the new siding laps over that flashing, so rain sheds outward instead of finding a path behind the boards. Do it in the wrong order and you end up cutting corners at every opening. Many failed siding jobs in Austin trace back to sloppy window flashing, not the siding itself. Getting this sequence right is quiet work that pays off for decades.

What materials did we use, and why?

We went with James Hardie HardieTrim Smooth 7.25" boards for this home. Fiber cement is the right call for our climate, plain and simple.

The material doesn't warp in 100-degree heat the way wood does, and it takes a hail hit far better than older siding. The 7.25-inch width gives the exterior a clean, modern face without looking busy. We primed the boards, then finished with Sherwin Williams Super Paint for a durable, color-locked surface.

How did the installation go?

The crew moved through the job in a clean sequence, windows first and cladding second. Delivery came through ABC Supply, with lumber and finish materials sourced from Gtown Lumber and local suppliers.

We ran two full punch and yard-cleanup passes to catch every detail. The whole scope came together and closed out on Dec 30, 2025.
