Siding

James Hardie

This Lakeway siding project used James Hardie HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill lap in the 8.25" profile. We replaced about 10 squares of old OSB wall sheathing before installing the new fiber cement boards. Fiber cement holds up to Central Texas heat, hail, and cedar pollen far better than wood. The home now has a tight, low-maintenance shell that reads clean from the street.

Exterior Painting

Sherwin Williams

The exterior painting scope in Lakeway covered siding, fascia, soffit, shutters, garage doors, gutters, downspouts, and the porch ceiling. We used Sherwin Williams SuperPaint for its fade resistance under 100-degree summers. Old paint was stripped from the garage doors and porch ceiling first for proper adhesion. The finished coats gave every surface a fresh, consistent look.

First Contact

The homeowner found Austin Pro through an internet search and reached out in mid-January 2026. The lead came in on January 14, with an early conversation about re-siding an aging Palos Verdes home and refreshing the full exterior.

Evaluation

We moved the homeowner to prospect on January 20, 2026 after an on-site look. Our inspection flagged failing wall sheathing and old cladding that no longer held paint, which shaped the scope.

PLanning & Approval

The project was approved on February 5, 2026. Selections locked in James Hardie HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill at 8.25" and Sherwin Williams SuperPaint for the exterior finish.

Installation

Crews started the siding install in mid-March, replacing about 10 squares of OSB before hanging the new lap boards. They wrapped the double garage door jamb and reset corrugated roofing, then the painting phase followed close behind.

Completion

The job was invoiced and completed on March 30, 2026, with two yard clean and punch passes to finish. The file closed out on April 23, 2026, leaving a sealed exterior and a uniform painted finish.

Siding & Painting in Palos Verdes, Lakeway | Austin Pro

We re-sided a home in the Palos Verdes neighborhood of Lakeway with James Hardie fiber cement, then painted the full exterior to match. The finished house now wears a tight, low-maintenance shell built for Central Texas weather.

Why did this Lakeway home need new siding?

The old exterior had reached the end of its life. Some wall sections were soft, and the surface no longer held paint well.

Fiber cement was the right call for this address. Here is what drove the decision:

  • Lakeway sits on limestone soil with long stretches of 100-degree heat
  • Wood and composite siding warp and swell in that kind of climate
  • Spring hail is a real threat here, and thin materials dent easily
  • Cedar pollen season coats everything, so a washable surface matters

What did the crew find during teardown?

Once the old cladding came off, we found the OSB underneath had taken on moisture and lost its bite. Fiber cement is heavy, and it needs a flat, sound base to fasten into. If you nail new siding over soft sheathing, the fasteners pull loose and the boards wave over time. We removed about 10 squares of that failing OSB and installed fresh 7/16" sheathing before a single plank went up. That step is invisible when the job is done, but it is the difference between siding that lasts decades and siding that fails in a few years.

What materials went on the home?

We used HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill lap in the 8.25" profile. The Cedar Mill texture gives a soft woodgrain look without the upkeep of real cedar.

Key line items from the worksheet:

  • Primed Select Cedar Mill lap boards across the walls
  • New 7/16" OSB wall sheathing where the old panels were removed
  • Double garage door jamb wrap for a clean, sealed edge
  • Removed and reset the corrugated roofing to work behind it
  • ABC Supply delivery for material staging on site

How did the painting phase go?

The repaint followed close on the heels of the siding install. We coated every exterior surface with Sherwin Williams SuperPaint, which holds its color under relentless Texas sun.

Prep came first, and that is where most DIY jobs go wrong. Old paint on the garage doors and porch ceiling was peeling, so we stripped it back before priming. Painting fresh coats over failing paint just traps the problem underneath. Once the surfaces were sound, we rolled and sprayed the siding, then hit the trim and details by hand.

Surfaces we painted:

  • The new HardiePlank siding and primed lap
  • Fascia and soffit up to 24"
  • Both garage doors and a set of two shutters
  • Gutters and downspouts, priced per linear foot
  • The porch ceiling

What was the final result?

The home now has a sealed, weather-ready exterior and a uniform finish from the porch to the roofline. Two rounds of yard cleanup and punch items closed out the job with nothing left behind.

  • Siding and paint completed March 30, 2026
  • Two full yard clean and punch passes
  • Garage jamb, fascia, and soffit all detailed to match
  • Project closed out April 23, 2026

Frequently asked questions

How long did this project take?

The siding install began in mid-March 2026 and ran across several days. Painting followed right after, with everything finished by March 30 and the file closed on April 23.

Why is fiber cement worth it in Lakeway?

Fiber cement resists the swelling, cracking, and pest damage that plague wood siding in our climate. It also stands up to hail far better than thin composite, which matters every spring in the Hill Country.

What did a project like this cost?

This job landed in the $15,000 to $20,000 range. That covered the siding, new sheathing, the double garage jamb wrap, and the complete exterior repaint.

Do I need to seal HardiePlank myself later?

No. The SuperPaint finish protects the boards, and fiber cement does not need annual staining like cedar. A simple wash to clear pollen and dust each spring keeps it looking sharp.
