Scope of Work

What We Did

James Hardie Select Cedar Mill Fiber Cement Siding · Seven White NT Executive Replacement Windows

Siding

This Siding in Pflugerville, TX project used James Hardie Select Cedar Mill 8.25-inch fiber cement lap siding. Its cedar-mill texture provided a defined look without using wood lap boards. We painted the primed siding with Sherwin Williams Super Paint. The siding and paint work gave the home a consistent exterior finish.

How It Went

The Journey

From the first phone call to the final walkthrough — what actually happened on this project.

First contact

March 9, 2025

The homeowner found Austin Pro through an online search and reached out on March 9, 2025. The conversation began around siding and windows for the Pflugerville home.

Evaluation

March 12, 2025

We inspected the home and started the estimate on March 12, 2025. The plan covered lap siding, seven replacement windows, and painted exterior surfaces. A window technician measured the openings before the windows were ordered.

Planning & approval

April 4, 2025

The homeowner approved the project on April 4, 2025. The selections included James Hardie Select Cedar Mill siding, white NT Executive windows, and Sherwin Williams SuperPaint. We ordered the seven windows on April 16 and received them in mid-May.

Installation

The window crew installed all seven replacement units in one day in early June. The siding and painting crews then worked on site from June 20 through June 23. Their work included primed lap siding, painted exterior surfaces, caulking, and cleanup.

Completion

June 23, 2025

The crew finished on June 23, 2025, after the siding and painting visit. Final tasks included punch items and yard cleanup. The completed exterior brought together the new siding, seven white windows, and painted surfaces.

The Full Story

Inside This Project

What did the homeowner want to change on this Pflugerville exterior?

The homeowner reached out after an online search on March 9, 2025. The request covered more than a siding swap: seven windows and painted exterior surfaces were part of the same home improvement plan. That mix matters on homes of this age across the Austin area. A fresh wall finish can look disconnected if nearby windows and painted details remain outside the plan.

We inspected the home and began the estimate on March 12. I treated each trade as its own task, then looked at how the finished surfaces would meet. A window opening needs careful measurement; siding needs an orderly lap layout; paint has to cover the surfaces included in the scope. Planning those pieces together helped keep the finished exterior consistent without assuming every surface needed replacement.

  • The siding selection was primed Select Cedar Mill in an 8.25-inch lap profile.
  • The window technician measured the openings before the seven units were ordered.
  • Painting also covered fascia and soffit areas up to 24 inches, plus the garage doors.

Why choose fiber cement siding for this home?

Fiber cement gave us a paintable lap board that fit the selected exterior finish. Central Texas summers routinely push past 100°F, so I would not choose siding on color alone. Board material, exposure, and the finish all deserve a place in that decision. Here, the approved plan paired James Hardie boards with Sherwin Williams SuperPaint rather than leaving the primed siding as the final surface.

The cedar-mill texture adds detail to a broad run of lap siding, but it does not turn the boards into wood. That distinction can be easy to miss when comparing samples. The homeowner was getting a fiber cement product with a wood-grain appearance, not cedar boards that would need their own maintenance approach. Paint was a separate part of the job, not a factory color built into this primed siding.

  • The scope specified Select Cedar Mill rather than a smooth-face board.
  • White Power House caulk was included for exterior joints.
  • Final punch work and two yard cleanups were part of the siding and paint visit.

How were the seven window replacements planned?

The NT Executive units had white finishes inside and outside. We ordered all seven on April 16, after the homeowner approved the project on April 4. They arrived in mid-May and went in during a single day in early June. That window day was separate from the later four-day siding and painting window; calling the entire project a one-day installation would miss most of the work.

Measurement came before ordering for a reason. A replacement window must fit its opening, not just resemble the one beside it. The installation scope called for standard-size windows up to 132 UI, a combined width-and-height measure used for window sizing. The crew also had installation materials and closed-cell spray foam in the scope. Those details matter around openings where a clean finished edge is just as noticeable as the glass.

  • The project called for NT Executive Series replacement windows, not new-construction units.
  • Both the interior and exterior window colors were white.
  • The early-June visit covered window installation only; siding and paint followed later.

What happened during the June 20–23 siding and paint visit?

The siding and painting crews worked on site from June 20 through June 23, 2025. We installed the primed lap boards and finished the included surfaces with SuperPaint. This was a multi-day visit, not a same-day siding job. Keeping that distinction clear gives you a more useful picture of the time needed for cladding and finish work.

The paint scope extended beyond the new siding. It included fascia and soffit areas up to 24 inches, the garage doors, and other listed exterior surfaces. On an Austin-area home, those details affect how the work looks from the street. Painting only the new boards would have left the other included areas out of the planned finish.

  • The lap siding had an 8.25-inch specified width.
  • The crew used the selected white caulk at joints included in the exterior work.
  • Cleanup and final punch items were completed as part of the on-site visit.

What should homeowners know about this project's timing?

The first conversation and the first installation day were months apart. The homeowner contacted us March 9, we inspected March 12, and the homeowner approved the plan April 4. The seven windows then had to be ordered and received before their early-June installation. Those dates are planning and material time, not days the crew spent working at the house.

The second on-site stretch began June 20 and ended June 23. That schedule let the siding and exterior paint work follow the separate window installation. If you are comparing a similar Pflugerville project with a quoted installation window, ask which trade that window covers. Seven replacement windows and painted fiber cement siding need not share the same start date, even when they belong to one project.

  • Window order: April 16, 2025.
  • Window arrival: mid-May, ahead of the one-day installation.
  • Last day of work at the home: June 23, 2025.

What was the finished result?

By June 23, the home had new Select Cedar Mill siding, seven NT Executive windows, and the planned painted exterior surfaces. The result is a consistent finish across work completed in two separate installation periods. Our final tasks included yard cleanup and punch items, so the visit ended after the detail work rather than immediately after the last board went up.

This project is a useful example of why scope matters more than a single product name. The windows brought a white finish to seven openings; the primed siding received its paint on site; the fascia, soffit, and garage doors were also included. Each piece contributed to the completed exterior, but each required its own work and timing.

  • The selected siding was fiber cement with a cedar-mill texture.
  • SuperPaint supplied the finish for the listed painted surfaces.
  • The completed work combined three services at one Julie's Walk At Katymead home.

Straight Answers

Questions About This Project

How long did the crew work at this home?

The seven windows took one on-site day in early June. The siding and painting work took four on-site days, June 20–23; the earlier estimate and ordering period was not installation time.

Does the 60-year wording on the caulk mean this entire project has a 60-year warranty?

No. “Power House 60-year White Caulk” identifies a product in the scope; it does not establish a warranty term for the siding, windows, paint, or whole project. Ask for the applicable written product and workmanship terms when reviewing any exterior proposal.

What budget range did this project fall into?

The combined siding, window, and painting project was in the $10k–$15k range. A similar Pflugerville home's cost would depend on its measured openings, siding area, and painted surfaces.

Why include exterior painting with primed siding?

Primed Select Cedar Mill boards still needed a finish coat. This plan used Sherwin Williams SuperPaint and also included fascia, soffit, and garage-door painting, rather than treating the new boards as the only painted surfaces.
