Siding

James Hardie

This Round Rock siding project swapped worn original cladding for James Hardie fiber cement. We installed the 8.25-inch Select Cedar Mill profile over fresh 7/16-inch OSB sheathing. Fiber cement was chosen because it shrugs off 100-degree summers, hail, and moisture that warp wood. The finished home now reads sharp and stays protected for the long haul.

Exterior Painting

Sherwin Williams

The exterior painting scope covered every visible surface on this Round Rock home. We coated the new siding, fascia and soffit up to 24 inches, garage doors, gutters, and downspouts with Sherwin Williams Super Paint. Super Paint was picked for its fade and mildew resistance under harsh Texas sun. The color-matched finish ties the whole exterior together.

First Contact

The homeowner found Austin Pro through an internet search and reached out on December 17, 2025. We connected quickly and set up a time to look at the home on Ashmere Loop. By December 18 the project moved into our prospect pipeline.

Evaluation

We inspected the existing wood siding and the wall condition beneath it. The original cladding showed the wear you expect from years of Round Rock heat, hail, and moisture. We confirmed the home would need fresh 7/16-inch OSB sheathing along with a full reclad.

PLanning & Approval

We walked the homeowner through the James Hardie Select Cedar Mill profile and the Sherwin Williams Super Paint plan. The scope covered siding, sheathing, trim wrap, and a full exterior repaint. The project was approved on February 4, 2026.

Installation

The crew installed new 7/16-inch OSB sheathing, then hung the 8.25-inch Select Cedar Mill boards. We wrapped the split double garage door jambs and primed the siding before painting. Fascia, soffit, gutters, downspouts, and garage doors all got coated on April 9, 2026.

Completion

We ran two full punch-out and yard-cleanup passes to close the job clean. The finished exterior read as one uniform, protected surface. The project was completed and invoiced the same day, April 9, 2026.

Why did this Round Rock home need new siding?

The original wood siding had taken years of abuse. Round Rock summers push past 100 degrees, spring hail hits hard, and moisture works into any seam it can find.

Wood siding does not win that fight for long. Once it warps, cups, and lets water behind it, the damage spreads fast.

  • Original cladding showed weathering typical of homes built decades back
  • Fiber cement was the fix because it will not rot, warp, or feed termites
  • The 8.25-inch profile keeps the wood-grain look many Round Rock homeowners want

What did the crew do about the wall sheathing?

Siding is only as good as what sits behind it. Before a single Hardie board went up, we installed fresh 7/16-inch OSB wall sheathing across the home.

This is the step homeowners never see and often skip. Nailing new siding over old, soft, or uneven sheathing traps hidden problems and leaves your fasteners with nothing solid to grip. New OSB gives the fiber cement a flat, sound base and a clean moisture line. It also lets the crew catch any framing issues while the walls are open. Lumber for this came through Gtown Lumber and Supply, with the fiber cement delivered through Southern Shingles.

Why James Hardie fiber cement for this home?

Fiber cement is the right material for Central Texas, and James Hardie is the standard we trust. The Select Cedar Mill line gives you that cedar texture without the maintenance headaches of real wood.

  • Stands up to 100-degree heat without warping or splitting
  • Resists hail impact far better than vinyl or wood
  • Holds paint longer, so repaints come around less often
  • The 8.25-inch board keeps clean, wide reveals across the walls

How did the exterior painting come together?

We primed the Select Cedar Mill boards, then coated everything in Sherwin Williams Super Paint. The scope went well beyond the siding itself.

  • Fascia and soffit painted up to 24 inches
  • Garage doors coated for a matched finish
  • Gutters and downspouts painted by the linear foot
  • Split double garage door jambs wrapped for a tight, clean edge

We use Sherwin Williams Super Paint here because it resists fading and mildew under sun that punishes cheaper coatings. Paint came direct from Sherwin Williams Co.

What did the finished project look like?

The home went from tired and weathered to crisp in one day. Every surface now carries a uniform, protected finish.

  • Two punch-out and yard-cleanup passes closed the job right
  • All debris hauled and the property left clean
  • Siding, trim, gutters, and doors read as one cohesive exterior
  • Invoiced same day as completion on April 9, 2026

Frequently asked questions

How long does a full siding and paint job like this take?

The hands-on install and paint wrapped in a single day. The longer stretch was planning and material staging between approval in early February and the April start.

Is fiber cement worth it over vinyl in Round Rock?

Yes, especially with our hail and heat. Fiber cement absorbs impact and holds its shape where vinyl can crack or sag, and it takes paint like Super Paint that lasts through Texas sun.

What did this project cost?

This reclad and full repaint landed in the $15,000 to $20,000 range. Final pricing depends on wall area, sheathing condition, and paint scope.

Do you paint gutters and garage doors too, or just the siding?

We painted the full exterior on this job, including gutters, downspouts by the foot, fascia, soffit, and the garage doors. A matched finish across every surface is what makes a reclad look complete.
