Siding

James Hardie

This Round Rock project replaced tired siding with James Hardie fiber cement in the Select Cedar Mill 8.25" profile. We added Hardie trim at 12" per LF, wrapped porch columns in 3/4" trim, and installed new 6" fascia and soffit with H-mold. Fiber cement stands up to 100°+ summers, hail, and cedar pollen far better than wood or old panel siding. We finished with a fresh paint package that tied the whole exterior together.

Exterior Painting

Sherwin Williams

The exterior painting component utilized premium Sherwin Williams products in the sophisticated Renwick Olive color, chosen to complement the natural cedar mill texture of the new siding. Professional preparation and application covered fascia and soffit areas up to 24 inches, garage doors, and the newly installed porch ceiling for complete exterior coordination. Sherwin Williams' advanced paint formulations were selected for their superior UV resistance and fade protection, essential for maintaining color integrity under Central Texas's harsh sun exposure. The careful color selection and expert application created a cohesive exterior design that enhances the home's architectural features while providing long-lasting protection against the elements.

First Contact

This homeowner came to us through a family and friend referral back on May 25, 2021. The first conversation focused on replacing worn siding with a lower-maintenance, cedar-look product built for Round Rock weather.

Evaluation

We assessed the existing exterior, noting wear from years of Central Texas heat, hail, and pollen. We measured the siding runs, fascia, soffit, and porch columns, then confirmed James Hardie fiber cement as the best fit for the 78681 home.

PLanning & Approval

We put together a full scope covering siding, trim at 12" per LF, brick pocket detail, fascia, soffit, porch ceiling, and paint. The homeowner approved the project on Oct 20, 2022 after selecting the Select Cedar Mill 8.25" profile.

Installation

Material arrived through ABC Supply delivery, and the crew installed the full James Hardie system in a tight window. Work included wrapping porch columns in 3/4" trim, running 6" fascia and soffit with H-mold, and painting the fascia, soffit, and garage doors.

Completion

The project wrapped on Mar 2, 2023 with two yard cleanups and a full punch-out. We closed the job on Mar 23, 2023 with a finished, weather-ready exterior backed by the James Hardie warranty.

Project at a glance

  • Service: Siding with trim, fascia, soffit, and paint
  • Location: Round Rock, TX (78681)
  • Vendor & product: James Hardie Fiber Cement Siding
  • Material: James Hardie Select Cedar Mill 8.25"
  • Timeframe: Approved Oct 20, 2022; completed Mar 2, 2023
  • Standout outcome: A wood-grain look with none of the rot, warping, or repainting headaches of real cedar
  • Why did this Round Rock home need new siding?

The old siding had taken years of abuse from Central Texas weather. Summer heat, spring hail, and heavy cedar pollen all speed up wear on wood and older panel products.

The homeowner wanted a look that read like real cedar but held up better over time. Fiber cement was the clear answer for this 78681 property.

  • Central Texas 100°+ summers can dry out and split wood siding
  • Spring hail dents softer materials, but fiber cement resists impact
  • Cedar pollen and moisture feed rot on real wood; Hardie does not rot
  • Limestone soil and shifting can stress joints, so tight trim work matters
  • What materials did we use, and why?

We installed James Hardie Select Cedar Mill 8.25" across the home. This profile gives a crisp, cedar-grain texture without the maintenance of real wood.

We used both primed and factory-primed Select Cedar Mill boards, then matched trim throughout for a clean finish.

  • JH 8.25" Select Cedar Mill as the main siding profile
  • JH Trim at 12" per LF for clean edges and corners
  • Brick pocket detail using 1" x 4" material and labor
  • JH Fascia 6" (includes 1x2, paint handled separately)
  • JH Soffit with H-mold for a finished underside
  • Porch columns wrapped in 3/4" Hardie trim pieces
  • A 4' x 8' Select Cedar Mill porch ceiling, installed and painted
  • How did the installation go?

Material came in through ABC Supply Co. delivery, and the crew worked the full scope in a tight window. The install wrapped on Mar 2, 2023.

Our team handled siding, trim, fascia, soffit, and paint as one coordinated job. That keeps colors matched and joints tight.

  • Wrapped porch posts and columns in Hardie trim for a solid look
  • Installed the brick pocket detail where siding meets masonry
  • Ran 6" fascia and soffit with H-mold along the roofline
  • Painted fascia and soffit up to 24", plus the garage doors
  • Two yard cleanups and a punch-out closed the job cleanly
  • What paint work was included?

Paint tied the whole exterior together. We used a Sherwin Williams package to coat the new fascia, soffit, and the garage doors.

Fresh paint over primed Hardie helps the finish last through hot Round Rock summers. It also seals the trim details cleanly.

  • Paint on fascia and soffit up to 24"
  • Garage doors repainted to match the new exterior
  • Porch ceiling installed and painted in one step
  • Primed Select Cedar Mill boards ready for long-term coating
  • What were the results?

The home now wears a full James Hardie system that looks like cedar but shrugs off Texas weather. The finished exterior is tighter, cleaner, and lower-maintenance.

Fiber cement won't rot, warp, or feed pests, so the homeowner skips the constant upkeep real wood demands. That's a big win in a climate this rough.

  • Uniform Cedar Mill texture across siding, trim, and porch
  • Impact-resistant surface that stands up to hail
  • Wrapped columns and porch ceiling for a finished front elevation
  • Repainted garage doors that match the new siding color
