Siding

James Hardie

This Round Rock siding project used James Hardie HardieTrim in a Custom Colonial Roughsawn look. We tore off two layers of old siding before installing the new fiber cement boards. Fiber cement holds up to 100-degree summers, hail, and cedar pollen far better than wood. We finished with Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint on the siding, fascia, and soffit for a lasting seal.

Windows

NT Windows

The window replacement in Round Rock came through NT Window, ordered in mid-October. The units arrived and went in during early November, ahead of the siding phase. Installing windows first let us flash and seal each opening the right way. Tight, well-sealed frames cut heat gain and keep dust and pollen out of the home.

First Contact

The homeowner found Austin Pro through an internet search and reached out on September 26, 2023. We talked through the storm damage and moved the conversation into a estimating stage by September 28, 2023.

Evaluation

We inspected the exterior and confirmed the siding had two layers that both needed to come off. The assessment flagged worn trim and window openings that would need proper flashing, setting up the insurance scope.

PLanning & Approval

The claim was approved on October 12, 2023. We finalized the James Hardie HardieTrim selection in a Custom Colonial Roughsawn profile and ordered the Executive windows through NT Window in mid-October.

Installation

Windows arrived and went in during early November, ahead of the siding phase. The crew then ran a double-layer tear-off and installed the new HardieTrim over several days, finishing with Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint on the siding, fascia, and soffit.

Completion

We completed the project on December 11, 2023, with two rounds of yard cleanup and punch-out items to close things out.

Why did this Avignon home need new siding?

The old siding had worn past the point of patching. Under it, we needed clean sheathing before anything new could go up.

  • Two layers of old siding had to come off first
  • The scope called out a Double Layer Tear Off, not a simple overlay
  • Work was filed as an insurance claim after storm-related damage
  • HardieTrim was chosen to stand up to future hail

What did we find during the tear-off?

Double-layer tear-offs always tell a story, and this one did too. Peeling back both layers let us see the sheathing and framing that had been hidden for years. That step matters more than most homeowners realize. Skipping it and layering new siding over old rot just traps moisture and shortens the life of everything above it. Because we went to the studs, we could confirm the substrate was sound before the first HardieTrim board went up.

Why James Hardie for a Round Rock exterior?

Fiber cement is the right call for this climate, and it isn't close. Round Rock homes take a beating from 100-degree heat, spring hail, and heavy cedar pollen every winter.

  • HardieTrim resists the warping that swells and splits wood trim
  • The Custom Colonial Roughsawn profile keeps a classic wood-grain look
  • Fiber cement won't feed rot or draw pests the way old wood does
  • It holds paint longer, so the color stays true through hot summers

How were the windows handled before the siding?

We ordered the windows through NT Window in mid-October, and they arrived and went in during early November. Sequencing matters here. Setting the windows first let the crew flash and seal each opening the correct way, then bring the new trim tight against finished frames. Do it in the wrong order and you get sloppy trim lines and gaps where water sneaks in. Once the openings were sealed, the siding replacement moved forward over several days, followed by paint.

What did the finish work include?

After the new boards were up, we sealed the whole exterior with paint. This is what protects the fiber cement and ties the look together.

  • Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint on the siding
  • Fascia and soffit painted up to 24 inches
  • Materials delivered through ABC Supply
  • Two rounds of yard cleanup and punch-out items to close the job

Frequently asked questions

How long did the whole project take?

The claim was approved on October 12, 2023, and the job wrapped December 11, 2023. Windows led the way in early November, with siding and paint following over the weeks after.

Was this covered by insurance?

Yes. This was an insurance job tied to storm damage, and it fell in the $10k–$15k range. We coordinated the tear-off and replacement scope to match the approved claim.

Why paint fiber cement instead of leaving it factory-finished?

A fresh SuperPaint coat lets us match the home's exact color and seal every cut edge from the field work. It also refreshes the fascia and soffit so the whole exterior ages evenly under the Texas sun.

Does new siding help with cedar pollen and dust?

Indirectly, yes. Sealing the siding and window openings tight cuts the gaps where pollen and dust drift indoors, which is a real win during Central Texas cedar season.
