Why did this Round Rock home need new siding?

Once we pulled the old boards, the wall sheathing told the real story. We installed fresh 7/16" OSB wall sheathing where the substrate needed it, because siding is only as good as what sits behind it. Homeowners often assume new siding alone fixes moisture problems, but skipping the sheathing check leaves weak spots that fail again in a few seasons. We took our time here, working over several days in early March before touching the roof. That sequence matters, so nothing gets damaged during the tear-off phase above.

What materials did we use, and why?

We went with James Hardie HardiePlank in the 8.25" Select Cedar Mill profile. That width gives a bold shadow line and the Cedar Mill texture reads like real wood without wood's upkeep. Fiber cement won't warp, crack, or feed pests the way older materials do.

How did the roof replacement go?
