Why did this Shady Hollow home need new siding?

The old cladding had reached the end of its life. Central Texas is hard on exteriors, and this home showed it after years of sun, hail, and cedar pollen.

What did the crew find during tear-off?

Some of the most useful work happened once we opened things up. The home had a double-layer siding condition, which is common on older Shady Hollow houses that were re-sided instead of stripped years back. That extra layer traps heat and hides problems, so we did a full double tear-off down to a clean surface. The fascia and soffit had the same doubled-up setup, so those came off too. Working this way costs a little more labor, but it lets us start fresh and catch anything the old siding was covering. A homeowner who just layers new boards over old ones almost always regrets it later.

What materials did we use, and why?

We chose HardiePlank Smooth 8.25 boards because fiber cement is built for this climate. It shrugs off the 100-degree heat and hail that beat up wood and vinyl here.

How did the painting go?

Once the siding was set, we coated everything with Sherwin Williams SuperPaint. The primed Hardie boards take paint well, which means a smooth, even finish.

We painted shortly after the siding wrapped in mid-March. That sealed the fiber cement and gave the home one consistent color.
