This project began with new NT Vinyl Windows from NT Windows on a home in Maple Run, Austin. We ordered the units in late July and installed them soon after they arrived in September. Vinyl frames resist heat swings well, so they hold up through Central Texas summers. Installing windows before siding let us seal and flash each opening cleanly for a tight, weather-ready fit.

We installed James Hardie HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill siding in the 8.25" width on this Austin, TX home. Behind it we added Tyvek ThermaWrap LE for a solid weather barrier. We also replaced fascia, wrapped porch columns, and detailed the garage door jambs. Fiber cement resists hail, moisture, and pests, which makes it a durable choice for older homes in the 78749 area.

June 16, 2025The homeowner found Austin Pro through an internet search and reached out on June 16, 2025. That first conversation covered the aging windows and worn exterior on this 1980s Maple Run home.
Evaluation
We inspected the existing windows and cladding on site and confirmed the frames were leaking air and heat. The walk-around also flagged worn siding, old gutters, and porch columns that needed wrapping.
Planning & approval
July 14, 2025We built a combined windows-and-siding scope and the homeowner approved it on July 14, 2025. Selections included NT Windows vinyl units, James Hardie 8.25" Cedar Mill siding, and Sherwin Williams SuperPaint colors.
Installation
The NT Windows units were ordered in late July, arrived in September, and went in first. We then ran Tyvek ThermaWrap LE, installed the James Hardie siding, wrapped the fascia, columns, and garage jambs, and painted every surface over several days.
Completion
October 16, 2025We removed the old gutters, completed two yard cleanups, and finished the punch list on October 16, 2025. The homeowner got a tighter, hail-ready exterior, and the job closed on October 30, 2025.

Why did this Maple Run home need new windows?
This home dates to the 1980s, and the original windows were worn out. They leaked air, fogged between panes, and let too much sun heat the rooms.
Summer here regularly tops 100 degrees, so old glass drives up cooling bills fast. New windows were the first fix.

What did the crew find during the siding tear-off?
Once the old cladding came off, we got a clear look at the wall behind it. That is where the real value of this job showed up. Older Maple Run homes often hide small moisture issues and gaps in the wrap, and cutting corners here is the mistake most homeowners never see until damage sets in. We installed Tyvek ThermaWrap LE (R2) across the whole home as a fresh weather barrier before a single board went up. That layer blocks wind-driven rain and adds a small thermal break, which matters when the sun bakes these walls all afternoon.
What materials did we use, and why?
We clad the home in James Hardie fiber cement, using an 8.25" primed Select Cedar Mill lap profile. Fiber cement stands up to hail, heat, and cedar pollen far better than wood, and it will not warp or rot.

How did the painting phase go?
Every new surface got sealed and finished with Sherwin Williams SuperPaint. Paint on fiber cement is more than looks, it locks out moisture and holds color under harsh UV.

Why install the windows before the siding?
Setting the windows first lets us flash and seal each opening cleanly, then tie the new weather barrier and siding right into those flanges. Doing it in the other order almost always leaves weak points around the frames.
Is fiber cement worth it in Austin?
