Why did this Windsor Park home need new siding?

The home still wore its original asbestos siding, common on older houses in this part of Austin. That material grows brittle over time and cracks under hail and heat. It also has to come off carefully, following proper handling rules.

What did we find once the old siding came off?

What materials did we use, and why?

We installed James Hardie 8.25" Prime Smooth fiber cement lap siding. Fiber cement was the clear pick for Austin's climate. It shrugs off 100°-plus summers, resists hail dents, and won't rot or warp the way wood does.

How did the exterior painting tie it together?

Painting fresh fiber cement is a critical step, not a cosmetic afterthought. We coated the new siding with Sherwin Williams SuperPaint and carried the finish onto the fascia and soffit up to 24 inches. This seals every seam and edge so Austin's wind-driven rain and cedar pollen can't work into the surface. A uniform coat also ties the whole exterior together for a clean, finished look.
