Why did this Cedar Park home need new siding?

The original cladding had taken years of abuse from hail, sun, and moisture. Boards had cupped and pulled loose in spots, leaving gaps where water and cedar pollen could work in.

The homeowner wanted a fix that would last, not another round of patching.

What did the crew find on site?

Once we started pulling boards, the garage door openings needed the most attention. The jambs on the split double, two singles, needed to be wrapped so the new siding would seal cleanly against the frames. We also cut fresh brick pocket trim, the 1x4 detail where siding meets the masonry, so there would be no ragged edge left exposed to rain.

That brick pocket is a step a lot of crews skip. Skip it, and you get a gap that traps water against the wall and invites rot right where you can't see it. We built ours from primed material and labor on the same line, so the transition sits tight and paint-ready.

What materials did we use, and why?

We went with James Hardie Select Cedar Mill in the 8.25-inch profile. Fiber cement holds its shape through the freeze-thaw nights and 100-degree afternoons that wreck lesser boards.

The primed Cedar Mill also gives a real wood-grain texture without the maintenance headache of actual cedar.

How did the exterior painting go?

Paint followed the siding by a few days, once the new boards had settled and been cleaned down. We coated everything with Sherwin Williams SuperPaint, a product built to hold color under hard Central Texas UV and resist mildew through humid summers.

The crew didn't stop at the walls. We painted the fascia and soffit up to 24 inches, the porch ceiling, and both garage doors so the whole exterior reads as one finished piece.
