Siding

James Hardie

This Cedar Park siding project used James Hardie HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill in the 8.25-inch profile. The fiber cement material resists warping, rot, and hail far better than older wood or hardboard siding. We chose it because Central Texas heat and cedar pollen punish softer materials year after year. The finished walls give this 78613 home a clean cedar-grain look built to last decades.

Exterior Painting

Sherwin Williams

The exterior painting portion used Sherwin Williams SuperPaint across siding, fascia, soffit, gutters, and downspouts. We also refinished a set of two shutters for a fully coordinated look. SuperPaint was picked for its strong adhesion and fade resistance under 100-degree Cedar Park summers. The finish seals the surface and adds a durable moisture barrier over the fresh Hardie boards.

First Contact

This homeowner had worked with Austin Pro before and reached back out on June 12, 2025. Because they already knew our crews, the first conversation moved quickly to the siding condition and a plan to repaint the whole exterior.

Evaluation

We moved the project to prospect on June 13, 2025 and assessed the existing siding, fascia, soffit, and trim. The inspection confirmed the old boards had lost their weather seal and that the sheathing behind them was still sound.

PLanning & Approval

The homeowner approved the scope on June 16, 2025. We selected James Hardie HardiePlank Select Cedar Mill in the 8.25-inch profile and matched it with Sherwin Williams SuperPaint, then set the material order through ABC Supply.

Installation

Both trades ran on July 24, 2025. The crew removed the old siding, installed the primed Cedar Mill boards, then painted siding, fascia, soffit, gutters, downspouts, and a set of two shutters. Two yard cleanups and a full punch-out followed.

Completion

The project was invoiced and completed the same day, July 24, 2025, and closed out on August 8, 2025. A final walkthrough confirmed a uniform finish across every surface and a spotless yard.

Why did this Cedar Park home need new siding?

Many homes in this part of Cedar Park were built in the 1990s and early 2000s. The original siding on those houses tends to fade, cup, and soak up moisture after two decades of Texas weather. This home was showing that same wear.

  • Older boards had lost their weather seal
  • Sun-facing walls showed the most fading
  • Cedar pollen and grime had settled into the grain

What did the crew find on site?

When we pulled the old material, we looked hard at the sheathing and trim behind it. This is the step most homeowners never see, and it's the one that decides how long the new siding lasts. Fiber cement is heavy and only performs when the wall behind it is sound and flat. We confirmed the framing was solid, corrected the fastening plan, and prepped the fascia and soffit before a single new board went up. Skipping that prep is the most common way a siding job goes wrong.

What materials did we use, and why?

We installed James Hardie HardiePlank in the Select Cedar Mill texture, 8.25 inches wide and factory-primed. Fiber cement doesn't warp in 100-degree heat, and it shrugs off hail and pests that chew through wood. The Cedar Mill grain gives a natural wood look without the rot risk.

  • Select Cedar Mill 8.25" profile for a bold, clean reveal
  • Factory-primed boards for better paint bonding
  • Material delivered through ABC Supply Co.
  • Fastening and trim matched to Hardie's install specs

How did the exterior painting tie it all together?

Once the siding was set, we coated everything in Sherwin Williams SuperPaint for one seamless color. This step seals the primed Hardie and adds a moisture barrier that holds up through long, hot summers. We didn't stop at the walls.

  • Painted siding, fascia, and soffit up to 24 inches
  • Refinished a set of two shutters
  • Coated gutters and downspouts by the linear foot
  • Full punch-out and two yard cleanups before we left

What were the results?

The home went from faded and weather-worn to sharp and fully protected in a single day. Both trades, siding and paint, ran back to back on July 24, 2025. The new exterior is built for Cedar Park's swings from triple-digit heat to spring hail.

  • One-day turnaround from install to final coat
  • Uniform finish across walls, trim, and metal
  • Two-pass cleanup so the yard was left spotless

Frequently asked questions

How long did the whole project take?

The work itself was done in one day, on July 24, 2025. The full path from approval on June 16 to a closed file on August 8 gave time for material delivery, scheduling, and final review.

Why is fiber cement worth it in Central Texas?

Our heat, hail, and cedar pollen wear down wood and hardboard fast. Fiber cement stays dimensionally stable in extreme heat and resists impact and pests, so it lasts far longer between replacements.

What did this siding and paint project cost?

This job fell in the $10,000 to $15,000 range. That covered the Hardie material, full installation, and a complete repaint of siding, trim, gutters, and shutters.

Does the paint protect the new siding too?

Yes. The SuperPaint topcoat seals the primed Hardie and blocks moisture, which helps the boards and the color hold up through repeated Texas summers.
