Why did this Round Rock home need new siding?

The old exterior had reached the end of its life. Years of 100-degree summers, spring hail, and cedar pollen had worn the surface down and let moisture sneak behind the boards.

This was an insurance job, and the homeowner had worked with us before. That history made the call an easy one when the damage got serious.

What did the crew find during tear-off?

Most siding jobs peel back one layer. This home had two, stacked on top of each other over the years. That double layer trapped heat and hid whatever was happening underneath.

When we pulled it all off, we could inspect the wall and fascia the way you should before any new board goes up. We found fascia that needed replacing, so we swapped out 1x6 fascia and 1x2 trim before moving forward. Skipping that step is a common mistake. New siding over soft, damaged trim just hides a problem that comes back later. Doing the tear-off in full let us start clean and build an exterior that actually lasts.

What materials did we use, and why?

We went with James Hardie Select Cedar Mill 8.25" fiber cement. The primed cedar-mill profile gives you the look of real wood grain without the rot, warping, or pest problems wood brings in this climate.

Fiber cement is the right answer for Round Rock. It holds up to hail far better than vinyl, and it doesn't soften or fade in relentless summer heat. The 8.25" board width also gives the walls a bolder shadow line that suits this home's scale.

How did the painting phase go?

After the new siding was up, our painters moved in and coated everything in Sherwin Williams SuperPaint. The primed Hardie boards took the finish cleanly and evenly.

We didn't stop at the walls. Pulling the trim, soffit, and garage doors into the same color scheme is what makes an exterior look finished instead of patched.
